UAE oil tanker attacks 'false flag' operations: Analyst

James Fetzer

The “sabotage operations” against tankers near the United Arab Emirates were a covert operation launched by Mossad and the CIA aiming to deceive the world that Iran was responsible for the attacks, an American political analyst says.

An anonymous US official was cited by Reuters throwing baseless accusations against Tehran in the wake of “sabotage operations” against the tankers.

“What we see played out in the Middle East with regard to the ships is a classic false flag operation setting up Iran for an attack by the West, in particular, the US,” James Henry Fetzer, an American academic from Minnesota told Press TV in an Interview on Tuesday.

“Nothing could be less in the interest of Iran than provoking an event like this -- very clearly an operation being conducted by the Mossad and the CIA,” he said.

Fetzer said this is a trap by the hawks in the administration of US President Donald Trump to lure US forces into a war with Iran.

“We are very very disappointed to see Donald Trump seems to be falling into the trap here … He is subject to manipulation by John Bolton, who has no business being his National Security Adviser, and Mike Pompeo, who has no place serving as Secretary of State,” he said, adding that both figures were extreme anti-Iran hawks who were “providing the President of the United States, who of course is also Commander-in-Chief, with false information about what’s taking place here.”

Fetzer said the move intended to deceive the world about Iran. “Clearly this is a set-up. The whole world must appreciate that this is not Iran’s doing.

He insisted that Iranians are peace-loving people.

“ Iran is a peace loving nation that has not launched a war of aggression against any other state since 1775,” he noted.
