North Korea missile launch

The South Korean military says the North has launched a number of short-range projectiles into the sea. Seoul says the projectiles were fired from North Korea’s Hodo peninsula, and travelled toward the East Sea. South Korea has urged the North to avoid what it called raising military tension. The South and Japan say they have reached an agreement with the United States to cooperate and share information. Pyongyang has not made any comments yet. If confirmed, the test will mark the first, since denuclearization talks began between North Korea and the US last year. The talks, however, have faced a deadlock, after the US refused to lift all sanctions against North Korea in February. Pyongyang had said it showed its good will by suspending its nuclear and missile programs over the past year.

Pal funerals

Israeli forces have carried out fresh attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip. Israeli warplanes targeted different positions in Gaza City. The regime's tanks also fired at targets along the so-called buffer zone. Sources say at least one Palestinian was killed and four others injured in other attacks on Beit Hannon in northern Gaza. Palestinians have fired a barrage of rockets in retaliation, hitting some areas in southern Israel. Israeli officials blamed the Palestinians for the escalation; a claim Palestinian officials deny. Meanwhile, funeral ceremonies were held for Palestinians who were killed in Israeli attacks.

Scotland independence march

Supporters of Scotland’s independence from the UK are out in force on the streets in Glasgow. Tens of thousands of demonstrators attended central Glasgow with the number expected to reach 100,000. Organizers say the rally will be the biggest and boldest in the history for Scottish independence. Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon has pledged to hold an independence referendum in two years. Scottish leaders believe that Britain’s system of governance does not serve the interests of their country.

France protests

Streets of the French capital Paris are witnessing yet another rally by Yellow Vest protesters who have called for social and political reforms. This is their 25th weekend protest since the anti-government rallies began. This time however, the turnout is much lower. Many say the number of protesters is low because the Yellow Vest protesters rallied in France’s May Day rally. Last week, President Emmanuel Macron issued a series of concessions, but the demonstrators say they lack details and do not go far enough. Similar protests are set to take place in other cities across France. The yellow vest protests started in mid-November.

‘Be ready for US attack’: Maduro

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has called on the army to be ready in case of a US attack. Maduro ordered the armed forces to get ready to defend their homeland with “weapons in their hands” if one day the US Empire dares to touch the Venezuelan territory. He was speaking at a military base. The order came days after US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed that military action is an option to resolve the political crisis in Venezuela. This, as the regional block, Lima Group has expressed opposition to any military intervention there. Washington has been seeking regime change in Venezuela ever since Juan Guaido declared himself the interim president in January.
