Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 1800 GMT, April 1, 2019 to 0800 GMT, April 2, 2019.

US sanctions on Iran

The Iranian foreign minister says Washington’s anti-Iran sanctions are hampering delivery of much-needed relief equipment to flood-hit areas in Iran. In a tweet, Mohammad Javad Zarif accused the United States of flouting the UN Security Council Resolution 2231. Zarif condemned the US blocking of the Iranian Red Crescent Society's aid efforts as financial terrorism. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has also said that challenges caused by Washington's unilateral sanctions will affect its relief support to Iran. Meanwhile, Iran’s interior minister has warned about the alarming situation in some provinces.

Venezuela’s Guaido immunity

The Venezuelan Supreme Court has asked the Constituent Assembly to lift the parliamentary immunity of opposition leader Juan Guaido. Supreme Court Justice Maikel Moreno’s request takes a further step toward prosecuting Guaido for alleged crimes. Meanwhile, Guaido called on his supporters to continue street rallies in protest of power and water shortages. The call came shortly after the government of President Nicolas Maduro announced a power rationing plan to tackle prolonged blackouts. Maduro also said in a televised speech that he had replaced electricity minister Luis Motta. Caracas blames the power outages on the US and the opposition, accusing them of trying to sabotage the country’s electricity system.

Brexit deadlock

Lawmakers in the UK’s House of Commons have voted against all the four alternative Brexit plans. The option that came closest to getting a majority was a proposal to keep Britain in a customs union with the European Union. The option was defeated by three votes. Other motions including holding a public referendum for any possible deal and continued membership in the bloc’s single market were all rejected. The votes were not legally binding, so the government would not have been forced to adopt the proposals. The rejections come after the parliament also voted against the government’s divorce deal three times. Brexit minister Stephen Barclay said lawmakers must agree on a deal as soon as possible.

Iran floods

Iran is grappling with weeks of heavy rainfall and flooding which have caused devastation in many provinces. The interior minister says the situation is still critical in some regions. The western province of Lorestan was one of the worst-hit with some cities being partially inundated. The deluge destroyed many houses and bridges, cut off some roads and caused power outages in some areas. On Monday, authorities issued evacuation orders for many cities and villages in several provinces. Relief agencies are working around the clock to reach those affected by the disaster. The floods in Iran, unprecedented in decades, hit the country in the early days of spring. Nearly fifty people have been killed so far.

Mozambique cholera outbreak

The number of confirmed cases of cholera in cyclone-hit Mozambique has doubled in the past 24 hours, with the first death recorded. The Mozambican Health Ministry says cholera has infected at least 1052 people in the port city of Beira. Some 517 cases of the disease had been reported by Sunday. A mass vaccination campaign is due to be rolled out on Wednesday. Aid workers have fought the cholera epidemic for more than two weeks since a devastating storm hit the country. Cyclone Idai made landfall near Beira on March 14. The storm has so far killed more than 700 people across Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Official say the death toll is likely to rise.

No-deal Brexit scenario

The EU's chief Brexit negotiator warns that Britain’s departure from the bloc without an orderly deal is becoming inevitable. Barnier made the remarks a day after British MPs failed to unite behind any alternative to the Brexit deal that Prime Minister Theresa May signed last year. This was the third time May's deal had been defeated in the lower house of parliament. She is preparing for a cabinet meeting today in a bid to try to put her deal to a fourth vote this week. The deadlock has already delayed Brexit for two weeks beyond the actual exit deadline of March 29.

Israeli raid on West Bank

A Palestinian man has been killed during an Israeli raid on the Qalandiya refugee camp in the Occupied West Bank. The Palestinian health ministry says the Israeli attack left Mohammed Adwan dead and three other people wounded. According to locals, the regime’s forces arrived in the Qalandiya area early on Tuesday to carry out arrests. They say clashes erupted following the raid. The Israeli military claims there was a riot during the operation in a nearby area, and its forces responded with live fire after rocks were hurled at them.
