Villarreal defeat Zenit 3-1 in UEFA Europa League's round of 16

Villarreal have registered a valuable 3-1 away victory against Zenit Saint Petersburg, in the 1st leg of the Europa League round of 16.

The Spanish side began the game on the front foot on Thursday, and opened the scoring through a header by midfielder Iborra in the 33rd minute.

However, Zenit almost immediately drew level after Iran international, Sardar Azmoun, tapped home a rebound.

The Russian outfit pushed for more, but it was Villarreal who were on target again, as Gerard Moreno directed a precise header inside the left post, just after the hour mark.

Manu Morlanes then added a 3rd in the 71st minute, as Villarreal took a healthy advantage into the return leg in Spain.
