With just a week left until midterm elections, a lawsuit has been launched against United States President Donald Trump for false advertisement schemes deceiving consumers to invest in low-return or no-return projects while gaining “large, secret payments” from profiting companies.

The lawsuit which was launched on Monday reads, "the message was materially false. The Investments did not — and could not — offer a reasonable probability of success," and names Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, Ivanka Trump and the Trump Corporation as defendants.

“This case is about four working-class Americans, and thousands more just like them, who were deliberately defrauded by Donald J. Trump, his family, and the corporation that bears their name," further states the complaint.

The timing and actors behind the claim have raised questions about possible political motivations a week before upcoming midterm elections. The legal filing has been submitted on behalf of four plaintiffs represented by lawyers Roberta Kaplan and Andrew Celli who were reportedly donors to Hillary Clinton's 2016 Presidential Election campaign. Moreover, the suit is funded by the progressive Tesseract Research Center, according to various media reports.

The complaint does, however, raise pressing questions about Trump's business practices. In one example, the filing claims Trump heavily endorsed a multi-level-marketing company called American Communications Network (ANC) from between 2005 and 2015, being featured in promotional programs and publications and even partaking in at least 14 related events in the US and abroad. Trump allegedly falsely claimed that investment in the company would be “without any of the risks most entrepreneurs have to take” and presented the company's sale revenue with false figures.

One reported plaintiff, named by the pseudonym "Jane Doe", claims to have spent thousands of dollars in the ANC company for two years but only received $38 in return. The other plaintiffs also allege obtaining zero returns after being deceived by the proclamations.

The complaint is, nonetheless, not the first such lawsuit launched against Trump. In November 2016, Trump settled suits filed against Trump University after paying $25 million without accepting any fault or liability according to lawyers covering the case.

Furthermore, a study done before Trump's presidency claimed him to be involved in "3,500" legal cases.
