Mutual trade has always been a bone of contention between China and the European Union. The bloc has long accused China of flooding its markets with cheap steel and has already slapped Beijing with its own tariffs.
What appears to be the US president’s reckless disregard for trade with his country’s European allies, has resulted in the bloc and China getting cozy; the enemy of my enemy is my friend. In a joint statement after the mid-July summit, China and the EU sent a clear message to US President Donald Trump. Both sides opposed what they called unilateralism and protectionism.
