Scientists discover perfectly preserved ancient fossil of horse in Siberia
Scientists have discovered a perfectly-preserved fossil of an ancient horse that has been frozen for almost 40-thousand years in Siberia.
The fossil was discovered by a team of scientists from Russia and Japan. It is about 94 centimeters tall. The young horse was only two months old when it perished.
The researchers say the foal was from the Lena horse species, which is now extinct. They say the animal probably died by falling into a natural trap, possibly drowning in a melting ice pool. The specimen is kept at the refrigeration unit of the Mammoth Museum in Russia.
