Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 1800 GMT, July 22, 2018 to 0800 GMT, July 23, 2018.

White Helmets evacuation

Jordan says 422 White Helmet volunteers and their families have crossed into the country. In a statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry said it had given permission for 800 White Helmets to arrive. This, after Israel said it had transferred hundreds of the volunteers from Syria to Jordan amid the Syrian army’s advances in the country’s south. Syria says White Helmets work with anti-Damascus militants and Takfiri terrorists. Russia also questions the group’s humanitarian work. Moscow says White Helmets have been helping foreign-backed militants and Nusra Front terrorists fake chemical attacks in Syria and blame them on Damascus.

US-Russia collusion

Top secret documents on wiretapping of a former advisor to the US president reveal he was collaborating with Russia to influence the 2016 presidential election. According to the papers published by US media, the FBI accused Carter Page of establishing relationships with Russian government officials. Page has rejected the allegations as misleading and ridiculous. President Donald Trump also said the release confirmed the surveillance of his campaign was a witch hunt. This comes just over a week after 12 Russian intelligence officers were charged with hacking Hillary Clinton's campaign to steal documents. It also caps a week dominated by Trump's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Pro-refugee rally in Germany

Thousands of German protesters have rallied in Munich to voice their opposition to the hardline immigration policies of Chancellor Angela Merkel's Bavarian allies. The protesters accused the Christian Social Union, which governs Bavaria, of adopting irresponsible divisive politics. They also denounced what they called politics of fear and a societal shift to the right. Earlier in the month, Interior Minister Horst Seehofer’s insistence on deporting refugees was about to derail Merkel's coalition government. Seehofer is trying to boost his party in the upcoming state elections, where his CSU party faces a major challenge from the far-right. Seehofer especially came under criticism last week following the suicide of an Afghan man among a group deported to Kabul.

US anti-Iran threats

The United States has pledged to put maximum pressure against Iran, calling on its allies to do so as well. During a speech in California, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington is not afraid to tackle the Iranian government at highest level. He urged other countries to reduce Iran’s oil export to zero by November 4. The top US diplomat also stressed the need for media campaign against the Islamic Republic. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has warned the Iranian president not to threaten the United States. Earlier, Hassan Rouhani cautioned Trump over pursing his hostile policies toward the Islamic Republic, noting that war with Iran is the mother of all wars.

Global trade war

The meeting of global finance leaders, the G20 summit, has ended with no breakthrough on disputes over US tariff actions. European finance officials said the meeting produced little movement from entrenched positions on trade. They described the Argentine summit as only the beginning of something. The European Union called on Washington to drop its tariffs on steel and aluminum imports. The world’s finance leaders called for more efforts to prevent trade and geopolitical tensions from hurting growth. Australia said those at the summit were concerned about tit-for-tat measures. The weekend talks in Buenos Aires came amid escalating rhetoric in the trade conflict between the US and China. The US president has also triggered retaliatory tariffs from the EU and Canada.

Israel raids refugee camp

Israeli forces have raided a refugee camp in the occupied territories, killing a Palestinian teenager. Medical sources say 15-year-old Arkan Mezher died after Israeli troops opened fire in the Dheisheh Refugee Camp in Bethlehem. Palestinian officials also say that a Palestinian man injured by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip has succumbed to his wounds. The victim was injured in the southern city of Khan Younis. Since March 30, Israeli troops have killed more than 140 protesters in the besieged Gaza Strip and wounded thousands of others.

Erbil attack

Gunmen have stormed the Kurdistan Regional Government building in the Iraqi city of Erbil, opening fire at security forces. A local official said two assailants seized weapons from the security guards and entered the building. Security forces have surrounded the area. They have also cleared the streets around the building, located in the busy city center. It is still not clear if the gunmen are affiliated with any militant group. The Daesh terror group, which has been largely defeated in Iraq, has carried out bombings in Erbil in the past.
