Finally, the festival of football is here and hosts Russia have comprehensively thrashed Saudi Arabia with 5 unanswered goals, including 2 world-class finishers in injury-time.

It only took 12 minutes for the hosts to score the first goal at the 2018 World Cup Opener as Yury Gazin-ski directed his header beyond the reach of the Saudi keeper.

Just before restart, Denis Cheryshev took the ball inside the box and fired high into the net to double the advantage. The 3rd goal came when Artem Dzooba peeled off the back of Omar Haw-sawi in the box and guided his header into the bottom right corner in the 71st minute. And as if the 3-0 result wasn’t enough to humiliate the Saudis, Russia added 2 more beautiful goals in injury time.

Cheryshev scored his second when he collected the ball on the edge of the box before masterfully sending the ball with the outside of his boot. And Alexander Golovin compounded Saudi Arabia's agony as the winger lifted a free-kick over the wall and into the back of the net. With the sensational victory, Russia's hopes are now high for advancing to the next round.
