A new Guinness World Record was attempted in Turkey's Edirne, as two tonnes of lamb liver were cooked in a giant pot and then offered to local residents.

The pot of seven meters in diameter and 80 centimeters in depth was fuelled with 12 tonnes of wood and three tonnes of coal. Chefs from Turkish cities, including Edirne, Bursa and Istanbul, as well as from other countries, including Ukraine, Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania, took part in the event.

Edirne Mayor Recep Gurkan and chefs turned the temperature up to 180 degrees. After cooking, the livers were served up to citizens, bringing large crowds to the catering stands.

The record attempt for the largest amount of cooked lamb liver will now be submitted to Guinness World Records for approval.
