US, UK, France strikes against Syria ‘illegal’: Commentator

A commentator believes the attacks carried out by the United States, Britain and France against Syria over an alleged chemical attack were “illegal” due to the fact that they did not have the approval of the United Nations Security Council, adding that they further complicate the situation rather than help solve the conflict in the war-torn Arab country.

“These attacks are illegal for many reasons, most notably the fact that they did not go back to the United Nations Security Council, there was not a vote, therefore it has further complicated the situation in Syria and today many nations are speaking about the fact that these attacks themselves were illegal because they do not help in the way of preserving security inside Syria, rather they just complicate the situation inside the region and do not also help us in reaching a political solution in Syria,” Hussain al-Mousawy told Press TV in an interview on Saturday.

Early on April 14, the United States, Britain and France carried out a string of missile airstrikes against Syria over a suspected chemical attack against the Syrian town of Douma.

Washington and its allies blamed Damascus for the suspected assault.

The Syrian government strongly denied the allegation and called on the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) to send a fact-finding mission for investigations. The watchdog's inspectors are currently in Douma.
