Here is a brief look at Press TV newsroom's headlines from 18:00 GMT, February 26, 2017 to 08:00 GMT, February 27, 2018.

Iran's Yemen stance

Iran’s envoy to the United Nations has accused the US and the UK of distracting the international community from the Saudi war crimes in Yemen. Khoshroo made the comments during an interview with Press TV. He dismissed allegations that Tehran had been providing weapons to Yemen's Ansarullah movement. The Iranian diplomat reiterated the Islamic Republic’s principled position on Yemen, noting that only a political solution and intra-Yemeni dialog can put an end to the years-long conflict in the Arab country. Elsewhere in his remarks, Khoshroo condemned the Saudi war on Yemen and said people in the war-ravaged country are suffering from a dire humanitarian situation. He also said that Riyadh’s unabated bombardment of its southern neighbor has not only claimed thousands of innocent lives, but it has also given a rise to terrorist groups in Yemen.

Syria ceasefire

Iran’s top diplomat has hailed a UN Security Council resolution, which is aimed at reducing hostilities in Syria. Mohammad Javad Zarif made the comments during a news conference in the Serbian capital, Belgrade. Zarif stressed that Iran, Russia and Turkey have played a key role in bringing down the level of hostilities in Syria. He underlined the need for a political solution to end Syria’s years-long crisis. The Iranian foreign minister said terrorism has ravaged Syria and brought a lot of bloodshed to the war-battered country. Zarif further called on the international community to join hands in order to help the Syrian people in their fight against terrorism.

US's al-Quds move

Hezbollah says the US decision to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem al-Quds is the result of complicity among Arab nations and a step toward eradicating the Palestinian cause. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance movement said the Arab complicity encouraged the US to speedily implement its embassy relocation plan. The statement noted that the resistance and intifada are the fruitful ways to regain the occupied territories and all other sanctities. The US state department has announced that it will open its embassy in al-Quds on May 17. The date coincides with the 70th anniversary of Nakba Day which marks the forcible eviction of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homeland by Israelis in 1948.

Setback for US president

US President Donald Trump has reacted angrily to a Supreme Court’s ruling that bars him from ending protections for immigrants illegally brought to the country as children. Trump, meeting with governors at the White House, criticized the decision by a federal judge to force a temporary nationwide halt on the administration’s move. The judge had issued the ruling to allow courts to consider legal challenges to the measure against young immigrants also known as dreamers. Critics say Trump’s move on ending the program, dubbed Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals or DACA, is arbitrary. Meanwhile, the Justice Department has said the Supreme Court’s ruling does not prevent the Trump administration from pushing to end the immigrant protection program.

Syria humanitarian pause

The Syrian army begins a humanitarian pause in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Ghouta to allow the evacuation of civilians trapped there. The first daily pause in fighting came into effect at nine A-M local time. The Russian Defense Ministry says the Syrian army has suspended airstrikes against positions of Nusra Front terrorists in Eastern Ghouta during the five-hour break. Earlier, the Russian operation center in Syria said the terrorists have taken hundreds of people hostage in the region. It said Russia and Syria will try to evacuate the sick and injured during the daily pause. Meanwhile, UK-based monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, said calm had prevailed in Eastern Ghouta since midnight ahead of the truce.

Saudi Arabia sacks military chiefs

Saudi King, Salman bin Abdulaziz has sacked the military chief of staff and a host of other commanders in a major shakeup. An official Saudi press agency announced the dismissal of top General, Abdul Rahman bin Saleh al Bunyan. The agency added that Fayyad al Ruwaili has been appointed as his replacement. The monarch issued a series of late-night royal decrees on Monday, replacing the heads of the air force, ground forces and air defenses. No official reason has been cited for the shakeup. The move comes as the kingdom's bloody war on Yemen nears the end of its third year. The United Nations has already described the Saudi-led war on Yemen as the world's worst humanitarian crisis.
