Russia's Putin registered as candidate in 2018 election

Russia's central election commission on Tuesday said it had registered Russian President Vladimir Putin as an independent candidate for the March 18 election. Putin, 65, has been in power, either as president or prime minister, since 2000, longer than veteran Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and outstripped only by dictator Josef Stalin.
