Abbas in spotlight in row over Jerusalem al-Quds

Tensions remain high in the occupied lands of Palestine where angry protests against Trump’s decision continue by the day. Protests that have not been free from fatalities. Trump’s decision clearly undermined the so-called peace talks between the Israelis and the Palestinians. Now the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for bringing the talks to a halt. He says Abbas’ decision to boycott peace efforts led by the United States shows that he is not interested in resolving the decades-long conflict between Israel and the Palestinians. This has put now put the Palestinian leader into the spotlight in what appears to be a complicated plan with many key parties involved.

US to arm Ukraine as tensions with Moscow soar

The Trump administration has approved a plan to provide lethal weapons to Ukraine. This past Friday, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said the US had decided to provide "enhanced defensive capabilities" to help Ukraine defend its sovereignty and "deter further aggression." The new arms include American-made Javelin anti-tank missiles. The move comes amid a recent uptick in clashes between Ukrainian soldiers and Russian-backed separatists. Analysts believe the move could become another sore point between Washington and Moscow. They say it might even prompt a confrontation between Russia and the US or Russia and NATO.
