No to Trump's al-Quds move

People have taken to the streets in the German capital Berlin to protest against the US president’s move to recognize Jerusalem al-Quds as the capital of the Israeli regime.

Protesters chanted ‘Freedom for Palestine’ and held banners reading ‘Jerusalem the capital of Palestine’. The demonstrators argued that they wanted a democratic solution to the problem. The protest comes after US president Donald Trump earlier this month recognized Jerusalem al-Quds as the Israeli capital. On Thursday, more than 120 countries voted in favor of a UN General Assembly resolution, urging the US president to withdraw his decision.

Bahrain repression

Bahrain’s main opposition bloc, al-Wefaq National Islamic Society has slammed a military trial of a group of civilians.

In a statement, the group stressed that the court proceedings violate both domestic and international law. The opposition party added that the trial is plagued by other violations including use of torture and incommunicado detention. It urged Manama to halt the ongoing trial and called on the international community to take action against the relentless abuses. The military court is expected to deliver its verdict on Monday. The case, which involves 18 civilians, is the first of its kind since Manama amended the kingdom’s constitution in April, permitting military courts to try civilians. Bahrain has been the scene of anti-regime protests since 2011.

Philippines deadly storm

A tropical storm in southern Philippines has caused flash floods and set off landslides. Over 180 people have been killed and scores of others are missing. The storm has also displaced more than 70,000 people. We have a report.

Slamming UN sanctions

North Korea has condemned the new UN Security Council sanctions on the country as an act of war.

North Korea’s Foreign Ministry said it considers the sanctions, imposed over the country’s latest ballistic missile test, as a violent breach of its sovereignty. The Foreign Ministry added that Pyongyang will continue to develop its nuclear weapons as deterrence against the US nuclear threat and other hostile moves. The Security Council unanimously imposed the sanctions on Friday. They severely restrict exports of crude oil and its refined products to North Korea.

Crackdown on Palestinians

Israeli forces have used tear gas against protesters denouncing the US recognition of Jerusalem al-Quds as Israel’s capital.

Israeli forces fired tear gas to disperse protesters dressed as Santa in the West Bank city of Bethlehem. Protesters are furious over US President Donald Trump’s decision to relocate the US embassy from Tel Aviv to al-Quds. They argue that the move is meant to Judaize al-Quds that’s equally holy to Muslims, Christians and Jews. Street protests have been continuing against the controversial decision since Trump made the announcement on December 6.

UK homelessness crisis

A UK based charity group has raised the alarm about the number of homeless people living across Britain.

According to Homelessness Charity Crisis, more than 9,100 people in the country do not have a decent roof over their heads. The group says the number of hidden rough sleepers across the UK will soar by 47 percent in the next ten years. It also calls on the British government to leave no stones unturned in order to resolve the crisis. The group reveals that the homeless are almost 17 times more likely to be victims of violence compared to others.
