Argentina’s Congress suspended a debate around national pension reforms in Buenos Aires on Thursday, following violent clashes between protesters and police.
Police used tear gas and rubber bullets as thousands of protesters turned up at a rally, which was held outside congress in the capital.
The proposed pension reform would change the formula used to calculate retirement payments, using both inflation and wage index data. The government has succeeded in getting favorable reports from the Social Security and Budget committees, with the Justicialist party yet to declare.
