Atletico Madrid have kept their slim hopes of UEFA Champions League qualification alive following a 2-0 home win over 10-man A.S. Roma of Italy.

Antoine Griezmann who had not scored in his last eight matches in all competitions put the hosts ahead after the break on Wednesday with a sensational scissor-kick volley.

Things then got even worse for the visitors as they were reduced to 10 men in the 83rd minute, following a red card for Bruno Peres.

Atletico took advantage and doubled their lead some two minutes later through Kevin Gameiro who beat the keeper from a tight angle to give his side their first European victory on their new home ground. It has also given them some hope of progressing into the last 16.
