UN Human Rights Council elects 15 new members

The UN General Assembly has voted to elect members of the Geneva-based Human Rights Council. While the council is often hailed as one of the most instrumental pillars of the UN, the membership criteria often fall short of expectations as some of the world’s biggest rights violators end up at the helm of this powerful body.
