The French political pendulum
In an age where the political pendulum in France is swinging from right to left faster than one keep up with, it leaves the observer hypnotized as to what might happen next. Before any votes have even been cast, there is scandal, turmoil and hidden skeletons in the closets of all main candidates. The former front runner, Francois Fillon has already seen his likelihood of winning the presidential race to the Elysee slashed as he faces allegations of corruption, including providing family members with nonexistent jobs, costing the taxpayers hundreds of thousands of Euro’s.
Divided Arab League
Another annual summit of the Arab League was held this week. The one day gathering on Wednesday brought leaders from over 20 states together in Jordan. The 28th annual summit came at a time when the Arab world is experiencing major crises including the Saudi war on Yemen; Israel’s intensifying violations of Palestinian rights, the conflict in Syria and violence in Iraq. However, from months before the summit, expectations for any major achievement by the Arab leaders were low.
Euphrates Shield dropped
The Turkish Prime Minister, Binali Yildirim has announced the end of Operation Euphrates Shield following what has been labeled by the Turks as a success. Euphrates Shield operation was aimed at assisting the so-called Syrian rebels in holding back Deash from the Turkish borders, as well as keeping the Kurdish faction away from Turkey. Turkeys declaration that the mission has been a success may have a hidden agenda, as it now seeks to play a part in any military intervention in Raqqa, a concept that may not be welcomed by all.
