'Homs terrorist attacks sought to derail Geneva talks'

Syria’s Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar al-Ja’afari has called on all parties present at the latest round of Geneva talks to condemn the deadly attacks in Homs. In a meeting with UN mediator Staffan de Mistura, Ja’afari said the attacks were aimed at derailing the Geneva peace discussions, insisting that any party which falls short of condemning the bombings will be considered as “an accomplice of terrorism.”

Political commentator Mark Glenn has told Press TV that the foreign-backed terrorists in Syria are seeking to undermine the peace talks in Geneva by all means in a bid to destabilize the situation to a point where they could see the toppling of the Syrian government and then replace it with a regime acceptable to Israel and the West.

“After all, this is what terrorists do. When we take into account the amount of bloodshed and instability that has been wrought in the Middle East for the last half a century or more by the same people who back these terrorists to go and destroy Syria, it shouldn't be in any way surprising that they would do something like this. This is the currency with which they purchase all of the legitimacy that they try to acquire for themselves,” Glenn said.

He predicted that this will eventually work out for those who are trying to bring peace and stability back to Syria, “because it is basically showing the world exactly what kind of monsters they're dealing with and why it is necessary for Iran and Russia and other countries to step in and encounter what has been just an incalculable amount of human suffering."

On Saturday, simultaneous bombings targeted separate areas across the western city of Homs, which is largely under government control, claiming more than 50 lives.

The Jabhat Fateh al-Sham terrorist group, formerly known as al-Nusra Front, has claimed responsibility for the bloodshed.
