Trump unpopular among more than half Americans: Poll

US President-elect Donald Trump is preparing to take control of the White House on January 20 with the lowest recorded approval rating, a Gallup poll shows.

His rating has dropped even compared to the same version of the poll conducted last month, showed the findings released Friday.

More than half of Americans, 51 percent, disapprove of the New York billionaire and former reality TV star while 44 percent approve of him.

The figures show a path towards growing unpopularity as 48 percent of the people approved of him in the poll last month while he was disapproved by another 48 percent.

According to Gallup’s measured ratings since former US President Bill Clinton, even the 48-percent figure was the lowest one recorded up until last month.

At this point before his inauguration, US President Barack Obama had an 83 percent approval rating while 12 percent disapproved of him.

Former President George W. Bush had a 61 percent approval and 25 percent disapproval rating before his inauguration while President Clinton had a 68 percent approval and 18 percent disapproval rating.

Donald J. Trump managed to defeat Hillary Clinton on November 8 by winning the Electoral College vote, which will give him control over the White House despite having nearly three million votes fewer than the Democratic candidate.
