Dominic Thiem of Austria has also advanced to the last 8 of the event after a 2-1 victory over qualifier Gastao Elias of Portugal.

Thiem was made to work hard for the win before eventually taking it at 6-7, 6-3, 7-5, in 2 hours and 39 minutes.
