Iran’s Mohandesi ranks 3rd in Asian Seniors Chess Championships

Iranian chess player Shahin Mohandesi has landed in the third spot at the 7th edition of Asian Seniors Chess Championships in Myanmar, and bagged a bronze medal.

Mohandesi took part in the over-50 category of the competitions at Hotel Hazel in Myanmar’s second-largest city of Mandalay on Friday, gaining 7.5 points to claim the bronze podium, the Islamic Republic of Iran Chess Federation website reported.

The 7th edition of Asian Seniors Chess Championships opened in Mandalay, Myanmar, on October 26 and wrapped up on November 5th, 2016.

Male participants competed in the over-50 and over-60 categories, while women attended over-50 and over-65 games.

The tournament was played in nine rounds according to Swiss system in respect to the Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) rules.

The time control was 90 minutes for the whole game, with 30 seconds increment per move from the first move.

The gold medalist in men’s over-50 class received a cash prize of 500 US dollars, the runner-up got 400 US dollars and the third-place finisher was awarded 300 US dollars. 

The organizers also handed 350 US dollars in cash prize to the champion in men’s over-60 section, while the second and third finishers received 200 and 150 US dollars respectively. 

Best women in the over-50 and over-65 divisions collected 300 and 100 US dollars as well.
