Toronto zoo celebrates 1st birthday of twin pandas

In a special ceremony with Chinese and Canadian officials in attendance, twin pandas cubs at the Toronto zoo have celebrated their first birthday.

According to a Chinese tradition for 1 year old babies, the zoo arranged 4 boxes with 4 Chinese words including ‘money’, ‘happiness’, ‘life’ and ‘bamboo’ on each box to let the cubs choose one.

Interestingly, both pandas got into the box of ‘bamboo’ at the same time.

The cubs, which are the first panda cubs born in Canada, will return to China in 4 years.

Pandas are no longer an endangered species but are still considered vulnerable.
