British streets are putting driverless cars to the road-test for the first time.

Although they aren’t allowed to join other vehicles on the road, the cars put on an amusing show for the locals in a pedestrian zone of Milton Keynes. The two-seater pods can speed up to reach 24 kilometers per hour, while getting their needed driving info using a network of cameras, radars and lasers.

They are also equipped with a virtual mapping of the town backed up by 18 months of research. While the autonomous car is attempting to reduce car accidents, those in charge have yet to gain the public’s trust in their project.

The team behind the pod hopes to make 40 vehicles available to the public next year. Projects as such have been supported by the UK government that is working on regulations to allow driverless cars to be used by 2020.Various companies have tested fleets of driverless cars worldwide with some promising to conduct public trials within the next few months.
