IRGC busts terror group backed by US, Israel in western Iran

Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps' Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) forces have dismantled a terrorist group, backed by the United States and the Israeli regime, in the country’s west near the border with Iraq, killing all of its members.

Commander of IRGC's Ground Force Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour said the terrorists were arrested in the border areas of the western Iranian province of Kermanshah on Tuesday as they were trying to infiltrate into the country to spread insecurity and conduct acts of terror and sabotage.

He said the Iranian intelligence and security forces tracked down the 12-member terrorist group and killed all of them during heavy clashes, adding that three IRGC forces were wounded in the clashes.

Pakpour stated that the Iranian security forces also confiscated a large amount of weapons and ammunition from the terrorists.

Iranian forces have recently engaged in clashes with terror groups, thwarting their terrorist activities on the border and within the country, arresting several of them and confiscating large amounts of explosives and bomb-making materials.

Iran’s police chief, Brigadier General Hossein Ashtari, said on Saturday that the country’s security and intelligence forces had arrested the members of a number of terrorist groups in the country’s eastern and western border regions.

He added that Iranian forces had also thwarted plots by Takfiri and Salafi terrorists as well as other groups hostile to the Islamic Republic who sought to illegally cross the borders and stir insecurity in the country.

On September 20, the IRGC forces arrested two terrorists of Pakistani nationality in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

According to a statement by the IRGC, the terrorists had been funded by Saudi Arabia and had received intelligence assistance from spy agencies of enemy states.

Earlier in September, the IRGC announced that it had dismantled a terrorist group, backed by Saudi Arabia and the United States, in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan

Iran’s Intelligence Ministry said in August that it had identified 102 members or supporters of a terrorist group in Kordestan province.

In a statement, the ministry said that the identified individuals belonged to the so-called Tawhid and Jihad Takfiri terrorist group.
