Palestine cause among top priorities of Iran foreign policy: Deputy FM

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari

A senior Iranian official says the Palestinian cause has always been among the priorities of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy, calling for unity among different Palestinian groups in the face of Israeli occupation.

“The Zionist regime is the sole and real winner of ongoing crises, racial and sectarian differences as well as the growth of terrorism and extremism in the [Middle East] region,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Jaberi Ansari said in a meeting with leaders of Syria-based Palestinian factions in Damascus on Tuesday.

He also underlined the need for unity and consensus among the Palestinian groups, saying Iran will continue to stand by the Palestinian nation.

Palestinian leaders, for their part, praised the Islamic Republic for its pro-Palestine stance and its unwavering support for the oppressed nation.

They also expressed their viewpoints about regional issues, referring to the fight against terrorism as well as attempts by reactionary Arab governments to divert attention from the Palestinian cause as the major issues gripping the Muslim world.

On July 1, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told reporters during the International Quds Day rally in Tehran that the message of the Iranian people is that the Palestinians are not alone in their struggle against occupation and oppression.

He said the Israeli regime is bound by none of the internationals norms and rules and is a base for the US and the global arrogance in the region.
