IRGC defense, deterrence power growth will never stop: Commander

Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the second-in-command of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps

A senior Iranian commander says the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) is increasing its defense and deterrence capabilities day by day without any halt in order to counter enemies.

“The IRGC will never stop boosting its defense and deterrence power,” Brigadier General Hossein Salami, the IRGC’s second-in-command, said on Tuesday.

He added that Iran is building the structures of a major power, which would be able to tip the real balance of power in favor of Muslims.

“The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps is defending the maritime might of the Iranian nation along the northern coasts of the Persian Gulf,” he said.

The Iranian commander added that the IRGC Navy is the manifestation of the great Iranian nation’s will to defend its vital values, emphasizing that the IRGC is determined to confront enemies as long as they seek to hatch plots against Muslims and Iranians.

Salami was speaking in a ceremony to mark the addition to the IRGC Navy fleet of a new 55-meter fast cruising vessel with a helipad on its deck to accommodate a helicopter gunship. The craft has been designed and manufactured by Iranian experts and has an operating range of 10,000 kilometers and is capable of carrying 100 military personnel and a helicopter on board in all weather conditions.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and has attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other states that its military might poses no threat to other countries since the Islamic Republic’s defense doctrine is based entirely on deterrence.
