Trump painted a dark picture of an America in decline: Clinton

The campaign of US Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton has denounced Donald Trump’s speech at the Republican National Convention as bleak, saying he depicted a “dark picture” of America.

"Tonight, Donald Trump painted a dark picture of an America in decline. And his answer — more fear, more division, more anger, more hate — was yet another reminder that he is temperamentally unfit and totally unqualified to be President of the United States," John Podesta, Clinton’s campaign manager, said in a statement on Thursday.

"He offered no real solutions to help working families get ahead or to keep our country safe, just more prejudice and paranoia. America is better than this. America is better than Donald Trump. Next week in Philadelphia, Democrats will focus on issues, not anger. We'll offer a positive vision for the future based on lifting America up, not tearing Americans down," he added.

The remarks were made after Trump leveled harsh criticism at his Democratic rival, ascribing many of the ills the US is now facing to policies implemented by Clinton and her powerful contemporaries.

“America is far less safe — and the world is far less stable — than when Obama made the decision to put Hillary Clinton in charge of America’s foreign policy. I am certain it is a decision he truly regrets,” Trump said in his acceptance speech for the GOP nomination.

“This is the legacy of Hillary Clinton: death, destruction and weakness. But Hillary Clinton’s legacy does not have to be America’s legacy,” Trump added.

This is while Republicans hailed the New York businessman’s speech, saying, Trump has prescribed a solution to eight years of Democratic policies by a change in political leadership.

“The problems we face now — poverty and violence at home, war and destruction abroad — will last only as long as we continue relying on the same politicians who created them,” the Republican presidential nominee said, adding that, “A change in leadership is required to change these outcomes.”

“I have a message for all of you: The crime and violence that today afflicts our nation will soon come to an end. Beginning on January 20, 2017, safety will be restored," Trump said.

Meanwhile, former Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Bernie Sanders panned Trump’s remarks at the Republican convention on Twitter.

“Those who voted for me will not support Trump who has made bigotry and divisiveness the cornerstone of his campaign,” he said.

“Trump is wrong. The real cause of instability in the Middle East was the Bush-Cheney invasion of Iraq. By the way, where is President Bush?” the Vermont senator added.

The Democratic Party has pledged to address America’s critical issues in the next week convention to be held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
