A series of extreme weather events have claimed the lives of at least 51 people and injured dozens more in China's eastern Jiangsu province.
According to the official Xinhua news agency, the casualties were caused due to hailstorms, heavy rain and a tornado that hit the province on Thursday.
The storms also leveled several homes and destroyed large numbers of buildings in Yancheng city in the province mid-afternoon Thursday.
Many parts of China have been hit by torrential rains this week as summer rainstorms have been heavier than usual, causing damage across the country.
Chinese media reports said on Monday that severe floods had claimed the lives of at least 22 people and left 20 others missing in southern China.
Direct economic losses from the floods hit nearly 2.7 billion yuan (USD 410 million), figures show.
China's vice premier Wang Yang and some other senior Chinese officials had issued a warning about the potential for the high record of floods this year due to a strong El Nino weather pattern.
El Nino raises sea-surface temperatures in the Pacific and is linked to serious crop damage, forest fires, flash floods and drought around the world.
