A grenade blast has claimed the life of one person and wounded three others in Russia’s northwestern province of Leningrad, local authorities say.
The explosion occurred at a bus stop in the village of Pasha of the Volkhov district on Sunday afternoon when an intoxicated local brought the explosive and detonated it, following a quarrel with some others.
According to the head of the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Saint Petersburg, Vyacheslav Stepchenko, the explosion killed the owner on the spot and injured three others. The wounded were hospitalized for shrapnel wounds.
The incident is currently under further investigation.
Sunday is the first day of a three-day holiday in Russia, commemorating the Easter under the Orthodox Christian calendar. Long holidays in Russia often entail deadly incidents connected to alcohol abuse.
Pasha is situated about 150 kilometers (95 miles) north of Saint Petersburg.
