Iranian FM addresses OIC summit on Israel's crimes

Here is a round-up of global news developments:

• Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has addressed the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jakarta. Zarif has reiterated Iran’s support for Palestinians in their resistance against the Israeli aggression. He noted that Israel’s occupation has violated all international humanitarian laws.
• Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has called for international support against Israeli aggression across the occupied territories. Speaking at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jakarta, Abbas said Israel is violating international human rights law. He criticized continued settlement expansion and attempts to Judaize Jerusalem al-Quds.
• Russia is ready to distribute humanitarian assistance in Syria through its military bases there. Military officials say aid agencies could have access to Russia’s naval base in Tartus and its airbase in Latakia in northeast Syria. Russia is also ready to provide the vehicles to carry the aid. 
• The Saudi-backed Syrian opposition group has agreed to attend a new round of peace talks in Geneva. The group made the announcement after a meeting with its members. UN special envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, has confirmed that preparatory meetings will begin on March 10. 
• The French government is under fire over awarding the country’s highest medal to Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed Bin Nayef. The presidential office said that Nayef received the Legion d’Honneur for his efforts in the fight against terrorism and extremism. The decision came despite international anger over the Saudi war on Yemen.
• The families of a dozen Chinese passengers aboard the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH-370 have officially filed lawsuits against the carrier. The families are seeking compensation from the company for their victims. The plane disappeared on its way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing nearly two years ago. 
• EU leaders have gathered in Brussels for an emergency summit to find a way to curb the refugee influx. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is also attending the discussions. The bloc is going to ask Ankara to agree to deportations of economic migrants from Greece.
• A bomb explosion has rocked a court complex in the town of Shabqadar in northwestern Pakistan. At least twenty people have been killed and nearly two dozen injured. The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack. Shabqadar is near the border with Afghanistan.
