Iraq's theme park restored to pre-war glory

An entertainment park in Baghdad has returned to its pre-war glory. The Zawraa Park was largely destroyed during the 2003 US invasion.

The park was built in the 1970s. During the US war on Iraq, much of the zoo, sculptures, restaurants and monuments were destroyed, and the facilities at the Zawraa Park were neglected in subsequent years.

The park has been restored by the Baghdad Mayor's office. It involves a zoo, fairground rides and an open-air theatre.

There is also a 54-meter-high tower with a dome overlooking much of the city. The park has become a popular place for locals and now attracts three million visitors a year.
