Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, addresses the Lebanese nation, on February 16, 2016.

Press TV has conducted an interview with Mark Glenn, an author and journalist from Idaho, to discuss the recent remarks by Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, about Israel's role in the formation of the ongoing crisis in Syria.

The following is a rough transcription of the interview.

Press TV: I like to pick up on that the comment made by the Hezbollah secretary general about the plot to basically divide Syria along sectarian lines and this is a call that Israeli officials have made as well and this is something that many count to the new Middle East that was envisioned by the US at one point.

Glenn: Yes, but actually it is a very old plan. There has been several policy tapers that have been written both at the political and the intelligence level by Israelis for Israel. We have a dead plan to talk about breaking up the various countries in the Middle East along sectarian lines who have clean document that was written for then Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in 1996. They talked about this very scenario that we are witnessing right now of removing these regimes that are considered problematic for Israel’s dominance in the region.

And so really what is amazing is the fact that a speech such as the fine speech given by the secretary general is not going to fall on the ears of those who really need to fall such as the people in the United States. To the average Americans this is just is more fighting amongst these crazy Muslims instead of understanding that all of these are taking place as part of a deliberate role on the part of Israel to fracture the entire Middle East, not just a small proportion of it, so as to make it easier to overrun and overtake and to be absorbed into what Israel considers to be its future caliphate which is considered greater Israel.

Press TV: Will that plot work?

Glenn: Now that the Syrians have the assistance of the Russians and of course they always have had the assistance of Iran, that is very questionable, because the world now has gotten sick of all of this instability. The world, at least the same proportion of the world, understands that everything that hinges upon this situation being resolved in a political and peaceful way. At the same time, however, we can not underestimate how far Israel and especially Benjamin Netanyahu are going to go to bring this about. These are the people who have been holding onto this dream now for thousands of years, not a few decades or even a century, but for thousands of years this notion of conquering and capturing all of the lands between Nile and the Euphrates river. So what are they willing to do in order to bring that about, that is the real question.
