US always aggressive toward Iran: Analyst

A handout picture released on January 13, 2016 by Sepah News shows US sailors being apprehended by Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC).

Press TV has conducted an interview with Richard Becker, a member of the ANSWER Coalition in San Francisco, and Maxine Dovere, a journalist and political commentator in New York, to discuss the recent incident involving two US Navy vessels straying into Iran’s territorial waters.

Becker says the United States has always been the aggressor against Iran, adding that it has imposed all kinds of threats, pressure and sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

He says thatas long as the United States continues to deploy vast military resources in the Persian Gulf region, the danger of such an incident happening again is almost “inevitable.”

Becker says Iran has conducted itself in this particular incident in a way that prevented an escalation.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the analyst argues that the leading Republican candidates in the United States seek to depict Iran in a negative light.

“I guess they [the Republican candidates] want another war but I think the great majority of people in the United States have no interest whatsoever for yet another military confrontation by the United States in the Middle East. The idea that there should be more military action… does not really resonate what most of the population in the US,” he says.

Dovere, for her part, believes that the presence of the two US vessels in the Iranian waters was a “physical mechanical mistake,” adding that there was no implication of any action against Iran and its sovereign waters.
