Iran’s Ne’matinia to referee Rio Olympics archery contests

Iranian referee Davood Ne’matinia has been elected to officiate the archery events at the forthcoming 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, which will be held over a seven-day-period in August.

On Monday, the Lausanne-based World Archery Federation (WA), which serves as the governing body of the sport of archery, invited the Iranian national to oversee the high-status international competitions.

Archery contests at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio will be held at the Sambadrome Marquês de Sapucaí from August 6 to 12. A total of 128 athletes will compete across the men's individual, women's individual, men's team and women's team events.

Additionally, Hossein Nasirinejad has been chosen to perform official duties at the first leg of the 16th Annual 3-Star Tour in Las Vegas, the United States of America.

The Vegas Shoot, known as the largest and most prestigious indoor archery tournament in the world, will be staged between January 29 and 31, 2016. All archers that shoot a score of 900 will receive a cash prize of $2,000. The top champion will be awarded a 50,000-dollar-check.

Iranian archers exhibited praiseworthy performances at the second stage of the 2015 Indoor Archery World Cup in Thailand, picking up four medals.

On December 11, 2015, Iran’s Parisa Rouhanian competed in the final match of the girl’s junior recurve section in the Thai capital, Bangkok, and scored most of the points to stand on the top of the podium and earn the valuable gold medal.

Her compatriot, Niloufar Alipour, finished as the runner-up and snatched the silver.

Also in the women’s youth recurve division, Maryam Karaminejad Ranjbar earned the Islamic Republic of Iran a bronze medal.

Separately, in the men’s youth recurve section, Shervin Asadzadeh received a silver medal.

Recurve competitions of the second stage of the 2015 Indoor Archery World Cup were staged in Bangkok on December 11.

The event brought together some 50 archers from a number of countries, among them Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Mongolia, Thailand, Sri Lanka, China, Denmark, India.

Male and female athletes took part in boy’s children, girl’s children, boy’s junior, girl’s junior, men’s youth and women’s youth divisions.
