Most Brits projected to become overweight

A report says three in four adults in the country are projected to become overweight by 2035.

Cancer researchers in the UK say three in four adults in the country are projected to become overweight by 2035.

In a report by Cancer Research UK and the UK Health Forum, the researchers said the distressing obesity trend may result in almost 700,000 additional cancer cases.

“In fewer than 15 years, the number of obese people will exceed those considered simply overweight, and by 2035 some 72 percent of the UK adult population will be overweight or obese,” the report added.

Now the researchers predict that some 670,000 further people could develop cancer connected with obesity over that period.

The report also sheds more light on other ailments which could be triggered by obesity such as millions of new cases of type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and strokes.

Now, the National Health Service would have to allocate an additional 2.5 bn pounds to address growing obesity-related illnesses.

Media reported that Cancer Research UK has already urged the government to ban the junk food adverts on TV before 9:00pm and review online marketing of unhealthy foods and drinks which target kids.
