Baghdad calls for NATO pressure on Turkey to withdraw from Iraq

1. Russia's envoy to the United Nations has slammed Turkey's military deployment to Iraq as reckless and inexplicable. Vitaly Churkin said Ankara’s unauthorized move reflects the lack of legality in the airstrikes in Syria by the so-called US-led coalition. Churkin made the remarks following a closed-door session of the UN Security Council.

2. The Iraqi prime minister has called on NATO to push Turkey to withdraw its forces from northern Iraq. Haider al-Abadi made the request in a telephone conversation with NATO's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. Abadi has described the Turkish incursion as a grave violation of Iraq's sovereignty.

3. Russia has launched strikes on terrorists in Syria for the first time from a submarine in the Mediterranean Sea. Russia's Defense Ministry said the military used Calibre cruise missiles to target two Daesh strongholds around the city of Raqqah. The attack damaged ammunition warehouses and a mine production plant.

4. A British newspaper has released new footage showing Israeli troops allow terrorists to receive treatment in secret field hospitals in the occupied Golan Heights. Medics have told the Daily Mail that many of the anti-Syria militants rescued by Israel belong to Salafist groups or al-Qaeda’s franchise Nusrah Front.

5. A number of ex-British soldiers symbolically discard their medals outside the office of Prime Minister David Cameron in protest against the UK's decision to join airstrikes in Syria. Last week, the British parliament approved a request by Cameron to begin attacks on ISIL targets in Syria.

6. The UN human rights chief has branded anti-Muslim remarks by US Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump as grossly irresponsible. Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein warned that such remarks could give extremist groups an excuse to target ordinary Muslims. On Monday, Trump called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States.

7. Opposition supporters have staged an anti-government protest in Albania's capital Tirana. Scuffles broke out between police and demonstrators as they threw stones and eggs at government buildings. The opposition accuses the government of corruption and increasing poverty in the country.

8. French authorities are interrogating four soldiers accused of sexually abusing children during their peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic. The soldiers allegedly raped several boys and demanded sex in return for food. The sexual abuse happened between late 2013 and mid 2014.
