32 Daesh militants killed in air raids in Syria

Smoke rises from the Syrian city of Kobani following an airstrike by the US-led coalition.

Airstrikes by the US and its allies have killed at least 32 members of the Takfiri Daesh terrorist group inside Syria.

The so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said in a Sunday statement that “more than 15 explosions” hit Daesh-held positions near Raqqa, the de facto capital of the terrorists.

More than 40 other Daesh members were also injured in the US-led airstrikes, the statement added, but did not mention which country carried them out. However it did mention that they were part of a US-led attack on the Syrian territory.

The UK-based monitoring group also said the casualty figures had come from just one hospital and the final death toll could be higher.

Reportedly, the US and its allies confirmed the airstrikes in Raqqa and other areas of northern and eastern Syria on Sunday, but gave no further details.

Since late September 2014, the US, along with some of its allies, has been conducting airstrikes purportedly against Daesh extremists inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.

The airstrikes in Syria are an extension of the US-led aerial campaign against alleged Daesh positions in Iraq, which started in August last year. Many have criticized the ineffectiveness of the raids.

This is while the US and some of its regional allies, including Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Qatar, have lent staunch support to the Takfiri groups there.

The latest country to join the US-led campaign against Daesh in Syria was Britain, where lawmakers approved a bombing campaign against Daesh Wednesday.

The UK was already targeting the group in Iraq, according to the state-owned British BBC network.
