Iran’s oil minister says the country is ready to hold the third summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), adding that the Islamic Republic can play a major role in global oil market.
Zangeneh made the remarks in a meeting with secretary general of GECF, Mohammad Hossein Adeli, on Sunday.
Noting that Iran was a founding member of GECF, the Iranian oil minister stated that member countries of the forum are among major players in the world’s gas market, Iranian Oil Ministry's official SHANA news agency reported.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Zangeneh said Iran is to host the third summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum in December, adding, “I hope, heads of all member states would take part in this forum in order to promote cooperation” among participating countries.
Declaring Iran's support for the activities of GECF, the Iranian oil minister stated that the country, especially the Presidency and the Oil Ministry, are totally ready to hold the summit in the best possible manner.
“The meeting will be held at the highest level and with the participation of the presidents of the forum’s member countries,” Zanganeh said, adding that energy ministers of the participating countries will also attend the event.
According to SHANA, the third summit meeting of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will be held in Tehran in December attended by 18 heads of state from the forum’s member countries, who will discuss different issues related to the forum and the global gas market.
The Gas Exporting Countries Forum is made up of 18 main and observer members. Iran, Russia, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Peru and the United Arab Emirates are the main members of the forum.
The Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Norway and Oman will also take part in the forum’s summit as observer members.
