Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump has blasted Marco Rubio, saying the Florida senator is a "perfect little puppet" of wealthy donors.

In a Twitter message on Tuesday, Trump referred to a report published this week which said that casino billionaire Sheldon Adelson was considering to fund Rubio's 2016 presidential bid.

"Sheldon Adelson is looking to give big dollars to Rubio because he feels he can mold him into his perfect little puppet. I agree!" Trump tweeted.

During a convention in New Hampshire on Monday, Trump described Rubio and former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, another Republican presidential contender candidate, as "puppets".

As many as 15 Republicans are seeking their party’s nomination for president but only Trump, Bush, Rubio and Ted Cruz are considered serious contenders.

Trump, the New York real estate mogul, continues to dominate the crowded Republican field as a recent survey shows 27 percent of Republican primary and caucus voters say Trump has the best chance of winning the White House in the 2016 presidential election.

Republican donor Adelson provided about $100 million to conservative groups supporting GOP candidates in the 2012 election cycle. He is reportedly going to pour even more money into the Republican race this time.

Rubio has recently emerged as a strong supporter of Israel, and an outspoken opponent of the Iran nuclear agreement. He has even vowed to cancel the historic accord if elected president in 2016.
