US Republican Senator Lindsey Graham says Democrats will be held accountable for any potential fallout from the Iran nuclear agreement.
“To my Democratic friends, you own this. You own every 'I' and every ‘T,’” Graham said on Thursday of the conclusion of nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries in July in Vienna, Austria.
“Every bullet and you own everything that is to follow, and it's going to be holy hell,” added Graham, a presidential hopeful whose campaign has failed to take off.
Graham has been a staunch opponent of the Iran nuclear agreement. He made the remarks as the Senate is gearing up for a key procedural vote on a Republican resolution disapproving of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Senate Republicans have conceded that the Obama administration has prevailed and the July 14 Vienna accord could not be stopped now.
US President Barack Obama has secured enough Senate support to block the vote on the Iran agreement even without issuing a veto as four more undecided Democratic senators came out in support of the deal.
The announcement on Tuesday by Senators Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, Ron Wyden of Oregon, Gary Peters of Michigan and Maria Cantwell of Washington brought the total number of senators who back the agreement to 42.
The level of support would potentially block passage of the resolution by paving the way for a filibuster of Republican attempts to disapprove of the nuclear agreement.
Graham denounced Democrats for the potential filibuster, claiming they are attempting to block “an attempt to have a debate, an up-or-down vote on the most consequential foreign policy decision in modern history.”
In an interview with Press TV earlier this year, Mark Dankof, former US Senate candidate, called Graham and Senator John McCain two of the “biggest lackeys for the Israel lobby in the entire United States Senate.”
