Kyrgyzstan says more than 40 nationals from the Central Asian country have been killed while fighting alongside Daesh Takfiri terrorists in Iraq and Syria.

Speaking at a press conference in the capital, Bishkek, on Tuesday, Rahim Salimov, an official with Kyrgyzstan’s Interior Ministry, said more than 400 Kyrgyz citizens have gone to either of the two Arab countries to join Daesh ranks.

He added that 122 women and 83 children are among the Kyrgyz citizens who are currently living in Daesh-led territories in Iraq and Syria.

According to a report by the UN Security Council released last October, some 15,000 foreigners have flocked to Syria and Iraq to fight alongside Daesh extremists or other foreign-sponsored terrorist groups.

This comes amid fears that foreign militants operating in Iraq and Syria may carry out terrorist attacks once they return home.

Gruesome violence has plagued the northern and western parts of Iraq ever since Daesh Takfiris launched an offensive in June 2014, and took control of portions of the Iraqi territory.

The foreign-sponsored conflict in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has also claimed more than 240,000 lives up until now, according to reports.

The United Nations says the militancy has displaced more than 7.2 million Syrians internally, and compelled over four million others to take refuge in neighboring countries, including Jordan and Lebanon.
