An African-American man that is suspected of killing two television journalists in Virginia for allegedly making racist comments, has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Vester Lee Flanagan was pronounced dead on Wednesday at a hospital in northern Virginia outside Washington, Franklin County Sheriff Bill Overton told reporters.

Flanagan, 41, is suspected of killing colleagues Alison Parker, 24, and photographer Adam Ward, 27, during a live broadcast in Roanoke, Virginia on Wednesday morning. All three were working for CBS affiliate WDBJ7.

Parker and Ward were doing a live interview when they were targeted.

A third target, Vicki Gardner, an employee of the local chamber of commerce who was being interviewed, was also injured. She is reportedly in stable condition in hospital.

The motivation of the killing is not clear yet; however, Flanagan posted videos of the shooting on social media, saying one of his victims had "made racist comments."

A Twitter account under the suspect’s name was suspended after it posted video of the killings.

The suspect was a former broadcaster for WDBJ7 who worked on air under the name Bryce Williams.

Footage of the shooting was aired live during the channel’s morning news broadcast, showing the man approaching the two journalists and firing at least eight bullets at them.
