- The secretary general of Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement says the US, Israel and their Arab allies have done everything to destroy Hezbollah but have failed. Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah also said Iran did NOT sell Hezbollah in the nuclear talks with the P5+1 group of countries.
- Turkish police in Ankara have turned water cannon on demonstrators protesting a deadly bomb attack by ISIL in the border town of Suruch. Security forces also arrested dozens of protesters who accuse the government of allowing Takfiri terrorists to operate on Turkish soil.
- Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman says any fight against terrorism should be in compliance with the fundamental principles of international law, like respecting other countries’ sovereignty. Marzieh Afkham says rooting out terrorists is only possible through cutting their financial and military lifeline. The remarks follow Turkey’s attacks on Syria.
- Kurdish fighters are gaining ground against the ISIL in the Syrian city of Hasakah. The so-called Syrian observatory for Human Rights says Kurdish fighters have taken over more parts of Hasakah and are now in control of 70 percent of the city.
- Saudi Arabia announces a five day truce in Yemen, after months of deadly airstrikes on the Arab nation. The ceasefire will take effect from Sunday midnight. Saudi Arabia violated previous UN-brokered ceasefires.
- A U-S drone strike has killed at least five people in the Afghan province of Nangarhar. Local officials say anti-government militants were among the dead. Washington claims its drone attacks just hit terrorist targets. But field reports suggest civilians make up the majority of fatalities of such strikes.
- The head of a French delegation says it seems to him that the people of the Crimean peninsula are happy to be part of Russia. Lawmaker Thierry Mariani also described E-U and U-S sanctions against Russia as useless. Crimeans voted overwhelmingly to rejoin Russia in a referendum in March last year.
