Turkish jets target PKK positions in northern Iraq

Turkey has launched airstrikes against the Kurdistan Workers Party or the PKK in northern Iraq.

Turkish fighter jets violated the Iraqi airspace and bombed PKK’s headquarters in the Qandil mountains. They also pounded the party’s bases in several regions in northern Iraq. A spokesman for the PKK confirmed the group’s camps were hit by Turkish forces. Turkish warplanes also entered the Syrian airspace and bombed a number of locations. Ankara says it’s targeting ISIL positions there. Turkey launched its first round of air attacks in the Syrian territory on Friday morning. Turkish Foreign Ministry says it has given the green light to the United States to use its air bases in the southern belt, for attacks against the ISIL terrorist group in Syria. The Turkish prime minister has defended the decision.
