Shootings leave three dead, 27 wounded in eight hours in Chicago

Thirty people were shot in less than 8 hours in Chicago shootings over the weekend.

Three people were killed and 27 more injured in a wave of shootings that occurred in less than eight hours during the July 4th weekend in Chicago.

Amari Brown was a 7-year-old boy who was shot in the chest and died from the fatal wound Saturday night.

The boy was with his father in a park where an unknown man opened fire on them around midnight, killing Amari and wounding another woman.

A 26-year-old man was shot in the chest early Sunday and was pronounced dead later in a hospital.

The third victim was also 26 and was shot to death in the South Shore neighborhood.

Some of the shootings, although not fatal, involved several victims. In one incident alone, four people were shot in Austin.

In another shooting, three people were wounded by unknown gunmen in Albany Park. There were also five more shootings where at least two people were injured.

Chicago is no stranger to July 4th shootings as in one occasion in the past four people were killed and another 40 were wounded in a 13-hour stretch.

According to Gun Violence Archive, more than 6,300 people have been killed and almost 13,000 have been wounded in the United States as a result of more than 24,500 shootings since the beginning of 2015.
