Press TV has conducted an interview with Jafar Ramini, a Palestinian author and political analyst based in London, about a recent report by a Palestinian rights group, which shows a 150-percent rise in administrative detention orders Tel Aviv has issued against Palestinians.
Following is a rough transcription.
Press TV: Give us your thoughts on the recent numbers released by the Palestinian rights body.
Ramini: It is hardly surprising. This is an ongoing policy of Israel. The Israeli nation - if you can call them that - elected the most belligerent right-wing government last March and they appointed Mr. Silvan Shalom as the interior minister and Ms. Shaked as the justice minister. Both those people have called us less than human, and Ms. Shaked, in particular, said that they must kill us all including the mothers and the children; the cockroaches - as she described us to be.
There is over 7,000 Palestinians languishing in Israeli jails with no legal representation; most of them have not been charged with any offense. Only Yesterday in Jerusalem at Al-Aqsa Mosque the Israeli occupation force shot a 10-year-old boy dead. This is happening because the international community and in particular the United States of America continues to give blindfolded support to Israel no matter what.
If you look at the recent events, even when Israel was committing an act of piracy in international waters of Gaza by boarding the Marianne, which is one of the ships of the flotilla 3, the American administration signed into law a bill that will persecute anybody who will oppose Israel or affects any boycott of Israel products and services. Who is going to stop them?
Press TV: Talking about the world scope and the world scene, what has to happen to change the status quo as the Israelis have complete disregard for international law?
Ramini: This is it. The complete disregard. The international community, who put these laws into the books, should act upon them, not just words, especially Europe! We know the United States of America, especially Washington, is an Israeli occupied territory. Europe must come up to the plate; after all it was in Europe that Israel was created, in particular, here in London, where I’m speaking to you from, they must come up to their moral duties, legal duties, humane duties and say enough is enough and stop Israel in its tracks.
Nobody is willing to do so, they are all cowed by the various Israeli lobbies here in London and in Washington and by guilt over the Holocaust. Nobody mentions that we the Arabs, the Muslims, the Palestinians did not have anything to do with the Holocaust. So why are we paying for their sins? Enough is enough. Israel is illegitimate, belligerent, criminal.
