Belarus has tested its new Polonez rocket launcher system that has a noticeably greater range than Soviet-made Smerch systems.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko's press service reported on Tuesday that Polonez, the country’s Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), has passed its tests in China, marking the latest development between the two countries in over a decade.

The lesser known system was first presented publicly at this year's May 9 Victory Day Parade in the Belarusian capital city of Minsk and promises a range of up to 200 kilometers (124 miles), similar to that of the Chinese Norinco AR3 MLRS, which was unveiled in 2011.

In a statement accompanied with the report, Lukashenko expressed his implicit dissatisfaction with the way Russia cooperates with his country.
“Our ally Russia is not so active in supporting our aspirations. We will talk about this separately with the Russian president; but thanks to the Chinese People's Republic and its leadership for this support.”

The chassis of the system is said to be produced in Belarus, but rumors say that it employs Chinese A200 rockets.

Lukashenko further expressed his growing concern over the NATO presence on the Belarusian border.

“They constantly publicly demonstrate their activity most of all at our borders," he sadi, adding that it NATO's activity is worrying.
