The US authorities do not know the whereabouts of the two prisoners who earlier fled a prison in New York, says the New York governor, noting, the convicted murderers could still be in the area or Mexico.
Hundreds of American forces were taking part in the search for David Sweat and Richard Matt who fled the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, in the upper reaches of the state about 20 miles (32 km) south of the Canadian border.
"We don't know if they're still in the area or if they are in Mexico by now, right? Enough time has transpired," New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Sunday, ABC News reported.

"But we're following up every lead the best we can," he noted. "The truth is that is the nature of the business."

Joyce Mitchell
On Friday, Joyce Mitchell, a worker at Clinton Correctional Facility, was detained and charged over "providing material assistance" to Sweat and Matt.
Court documents said the 51-year-old (seen below) provided hacksaw blades and chisels to the inmates.
Joyce intended to meet Matt and Sweat at a power plant near the prison on the night they escaped earlier in June but she never showed up. Instead she complained of a panic attack after checking into a hospital 40 minutes away,
"I understand prisons run on a delicate balance," Cuomo said. "And having a good relationship between the guards and the inmates, guards and the employees, employees and the inmates is important. But, there's a line. And when the line is stepped, then action has to be taken."
However, the New York governor noted that Joyce’s move is a crime in and “will be fully prosecuted as a crime, in and of itself… We will have zero tolerance for that."
Matt, 48, and Sweat, 34, who are still at large, are dangerous and should not be approached, according New York state police.
On June 6, Matt and Sweat were unaccounted for during bed check at the prison.
Sweat was serving a life sentence without parole after he was convicted of first-degree murder for killing a sheriff's deputy in 2002, while Matt was serving a sentence of 25 years to life for kidnapping a man and beating him to death in 1997.
